    Posted: 25 Feb 2010 at 5:54pm
Was tinkering in the garage tonite and the tach doesn't work on the D17 I picked up.  Pulled it off of the back of the tach and pulled half of the cable out of the inside.  Does anyone sell just the flexible cable that goes in the inside, or do I have to buy a whole cable and sleeve?  Also, my tach looks to be in great shape other then the fact that the needle is off/missing.  I thought there was a discussion a couple weeks ago about someone that can have the tachs repaired.  If it's less then a replacement one, that would be nice as this one shows the original hours, at least until the tach cable broke, and would be nice to keep with the tractor.

The tach on my D-14 had the needle off too, also made a clunking noise. Took it apart and the two screws holding the guts had backed off and out ! Now I have a mechanical jigsaw puzzle. New tachs are only $100 +-, so I'll order a new one. It's a simple job to get a drill to run the tach and put the original hours on it. take a pitcure of the original for the 'correct cops' though !
The flex cable should be available from tach sellers ?

Chuck -

Be careful when you take the distributor end off - there is a tiny little adapter there that converts the square cable end to the keyed round hole in the shaft - at least on my series 1 there was.  I lost it, but Norm saved the day as he had one in stock.
cheers,
Creek
