It won't stay in high range unless you hold it in for 15 or20 seconds.Usually after it warms up it's ok.Is this just a matter of taking some shims out? Thanks.

Remove the high side "stop bolt" and see if that helps. Generally "shimming" of the PD clutch is a process of tightening it, which will make the popping out even worse. The ramp plate pockets and rollers are worn causing it to not quite go over center, which is what locks it in. The reason it does it only when cold, is because you are squeezing out the cold oil (which makes the clutch tighter....like shimming does), once the oil is squeezed out, then it stays engaged. The ramps/rollers are good for so many thousands of "snaps" and they start to wear, causing the trouble. Won't hurt to run it....just an inconvienience.

Also, check the set-screw that secures the P-D handle to the shaft at the bottom. It should be tight with no free-play between lever and shaft.
