Looks like I will need an engine for a 170 early gas. What will fit? any combine engines and what is required if it does? So far the parts needed to repair the original are oil pan, oil pump, oil suction line and screen, camshaft, lifters, cam bearings, cam shaft cover, 1 connecting rod, 1 sleeve and I have'nt even pulled off the head or the crankshaft!

Kurt, you could use an engine out of any E model Gleaner, 175 Gas, or Series 3 or 4 D17. Kip

well theys only two items listed that a new overhaul wouldnt need in my opinion . they are the oilpan and cam cover. having a new clean oil system is the life of any engine build.

I am putting a F Gleaner engine in a D17. (If I ever get time to work on it.) I think it will work out well.
Allis did use some Perkins 4-236 diesel engines in 175 tractors. That is the engine in a Massey 410 combine. I dunno what other parts you would need to make that work. My old D17 engine would be available but it has a bearing tightening up on the crank. So, it would need majored with crank ground. |
