Hey ive got a 1937 wc thats been in our family since my grandpa's dad purchased it new. My uncle used to use it every winter for snow plowing, however he was killed in an accident in 05. I just recent got it restarted (hell of a time cranking it). Runs like a top but i have a lot of questions about it. my uncle installed a set of hydrolics for the plow, and the hydro pump for it. It also has a radio, and headlight and everything seemes to run off of a 12v car type battery. a small steel box bolted under the left hand side of the fuel tank has some wires from this 12v system hooked into it. Anyone have any idea what the heck this might be? Also i live in north central indiana and need to know where i can get new plugs, and wires for it locally without having to drive or send off for them. Thanks for anybodys time for reading this.

You can get plugs and wires most anywhere. If it has a magneto, get solid core wires and use non resistor plugs. I got my wires at Farm and Fleet. Any auto parts store should have AC45 plugs. Post a picture and show the metal box your talkin about. We all like seein pictures.

First, welcome to our site and congratulations on obtaining your Grandfather's WC. Having this in the family PRICELESS!!!
You may want to check with SteveNJ at B&B. He is the best on electrical advice on this site.
There are two classes of WC tractors - styled and unstyled (flat top)- In 1937 the WC was unstyled with a boxy look. The next year they came out with the styled WC which was more rounded looking.
Sounds like your granfather did a lot of good jury rigging on the tractor. It probably does not have a generator so he may have a charger to keep the battery charged. That may be the reason for the box.
Yes, if you can send us pictures.
Good Luck!

My 37 has starter and alternator. The battery box is mounted in the same place as the styled, LH Frame Rail, to the back. Welcome to a great knowledge base.

Mike, to me it sounds like the box you are describing is a voltage regulator. Does the tractor have an alternator or a generator? If it is a genny, it should have a box that looks like this:

That regulates the rate of charge to the battery. Now, can you tell everyone if you have a generator or an alternator? Generator will most likely be cylinder-shaped. Alternator will be an alternator from some sort of automobile retrofitted on there. Newer Chevy-style alternators only have one wire and do not require the voltage regulator. Older alternators will have wires that run to the box you are talking about. A generator will also. Steve at B&B can help you better than me, he does this for a living. I'm just killing time.
