Does it have spin-out rims? If so are all the bolts tight on the clamps for each rail? Mike

Then you have a 190 prior to sn 9001, which has the orphan transmission/rearend gears and shafts. Good luck finding any parts.

Yes and no....a complete 190XT rearend will roll right into place, but the gearing is all wrong. A really old 190 is geared 1-2, 3-5, 4-6, 7-8.........all XT's and later 190's with 3 1/4" axles are geared 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8. Everything in the trans and rearend of a prior to sn9001 190 is unique to them. Nothing else from any other model or s/n fits. This is what the first XT's had, and all that stuff was removed and thrown away and converted to heavier/stronger stuff to be able to hold up to 95 hp. They never updated the 190's, as 75 hp didn't hurt anything like 95 hp did.

ok we have a allis chalmers junk yard here in missouri with over 1000 different allis chalmers in it, and gleaners my ? is on the orphan trans and rearend does that mean the shafts are run in and out of both. or does it mean there seperate. i am not very familiar with the 190 series we have D19 and D17s but these two 190s we bought are a learning experience. my dads i believe is the xt model it has bigger axle and a turbo while mine has no turbo and has a smaller axle petruding. any help with how this works would help so i kinda know what to do with it.

I have seen the axle caps come loose on a series 3 xt; that makes a clang when it gets in the ring + pinion and not good for the cap ; but I dont know if a small rear tractor has them ; mine didnt do it all the time - just enough for me too think somethings going on in there ; you would have hyd. oil in the bull gear compartment too ; You may pull the trans top off and check the 4 th gear , a bearing could be getting bad ;sound travels ; I got a 180 that has a 2 nd gear groan thats only in 2 nd ; where in Mo are ya ? |

If you pull your top cover on your shifter you will know a lot more. I have a straight 190, not XT, serial number 5412D that has the light axle's 2 3/4 inch and has the updated transmission main shaft that became effective at SN 9001. There is a noticeable difference in third and forth gear shift collar that will help you identify what you have for sure at least.

What do you have to do to update a early transmission?

Let's see if I remember....replace every gear and shaft in the transmission (eight gears..two shafts), all bearings/cups, replace the ring and pinion gearset, replace both bull gears and bull pinion gears, replace both axles, replace all four gears ahead of the Power Director clutch, and I think the entire shift cover including forks/rails were also replaced. I also remember a thing with really old serial numbers that the mainshaft pinion bearing bore is too small to accept the later updated brg which has a bigger OD, so you can't make the conversion without a newer rearend housing.

I want to think everyone for there information I am going to take the cover off the rearend next weekend and take a look i have check the transmission today with top removed everything looked good. i pulled the rearend plug on the left side and got some metal shavings. I think i got it narrowed down to one side now and i guesse ill be taking my chances. Also i live just 1 hour south of KC for whoever was asking, I called the allis junk yard up the road he said he had some used parts for them models. wish me luck and thanks to everyone.
