Thanks to all of you for the input. I sucessfully timed the  engine and it now runs and I would say runs pretty good. This tractor I should of just parted out but I couldnt for I bought it at an auction about a 18 mo ago, on a very cold day so no machinery was running, but the auctioneer said it ran and drove, but what he forgot to add is in what year that happened. When I got it home and in the shop it wouldnt start so I took the carb off and it was so full of crap that It may not of run for years.  I finallygot it started and it started to knock so I took engine out and found out thrust bearing was so wore that the crank had wore into the block. Rule no #1 never buy unless you can hear it run. I would like to post pictures but it always says they are too large if anyone has any tips on how to post pictures let me know. I also need a set of front lights for this D17 if anyone has some or knows of a set and also if anyone knows of real good paint not the stuff that changes color after a year or so. thanks again I appreciate it.

Cool beans Boscoe.I knew you would get it. Just took a while to hold your tongue  in the right direction. God Bless. My brother has had realgood luck with paint from AGCO. Others recommend dupont  but I don't know year of your tractor and if it should be persion 1 or 2.
Good luck and God Bless.

I know it's a grrrrate feeling to hear old iron run again !!!! My 'newest' D-14 ran(?) lousy until I figured out the previous owner had the firing order off. 2-1-4-3 instead of 1-2-4-3.She starts with a vengence even in this -10 weather!
Treat them right, and they'll treat you right!
