A while back I asked about a seal for my Ross steering levershaft, and someone suggested taking it to NAPA and matchihg to one that was the same size. This was a great suggestion. When I measured it, the shaft size was standard, but of the housing was an odd size - around 1.43" for the seal O.D. I measured the O.D. and I.D. in both English and Metric sizes, went to NAPA, and the closest size they could order was 25mm x 36mm x 7mm. It was closer than any English dimension seal. I ordered it, picked it up, and it fit PERFECTLY.
I guess the suggestion here is to consider Metric sizes when you are trying to match new parts to old applications. The NAPA P/N for this B Ross levershaft seal is 8531100766 5. It's an SKF #9710, made in the good old US of A, and under 8 bucks. Edited by GBACBFan - 02 Dec 2009 at 7:16pm |
