i recently took off my power steering pump and reassembled it all. when i started my tractor back up, the wheels turned on there own to the right side. i cant turn the wheels to the left at all. Was i suppose to align the power steering gears? Does anyone have any idea why the wheels would turn on its own. thanks |

had that happen on my D-15, turned out the lines were on backwards on the Control valve. Doesn't sound like that is problem though, can't imagine you could cross the lines up with just disconnecting the pump assy.

the only way it could turn on it's own is if the steering valve was stuck in the right turn position. something may have gotten in the line when the pump was off and was pumped into the valve when started up

I had that happen on my D-17 series lll. Inside the control valve/worm shaft unit there is an adjusting nut. This nut came loose and the shaft moved messing up the routing of the oil in the valve.
When I started the engine the wheels went to the right all the way and and I could not make them turn left.
In the center picture part # 79 {nut] caused mine to do what yours is doing.
What was the problem that made you work on the pump.
If the control valve worked fine before the pump rebuild you may have another problem that causes the same action with the wheels?????
Have someone turn the wheel with the engine off.
Watch the shaft at the control valve.
If that nut is loose the shaft will work in and out of the control valve instead of turning the sector gear. The shaft will just ride up and down the sector gear and won't turn it.
