Does anyone have specs on the fuel sender and/or the gauge for a 185?  For years the gauge has read way past FULL.  We cleaned up the grounds and contacts, and it still reads way past full, but at the moment the tank *is* full and it's a little hard to vary the fuel level at will, and I don't know how to take out the sending unit.  We're getting some sort of signal from the sender, and if we reverse the leads on the gauge it swings back to way-past-empty.  At this point I still don't know which one isn't working so if anyone has specs, that would help in the troubleshooting.  Thanks a bunch.

sounds like the sending unit is FUBAR.  You have verifed the guage will move off full to empty, so it not getting a signal from the sending unit.  Ya gotta take the hood off, the sendingunit is in the top of the tank, then you can check and be sure the wires are hooked up before ya take it out.   When ya take the unit out it will be apparent whats broken on it, Im betin the little slider has separated from the float lever.   HTH
