I currently own an I-40 Loader/Backhoe that has 14.9x24" tires on the rear. They are pretty warn but do hold air or liquid? Question: She seems to sit low in the back and wanted to raise her up about 2-4" in the rear. What size tire can I use and still use the 14.9 x 24 rims? I will need 6ply - R4 tires by next year and looking out for some good priced used or new ones- can't really afford them now- but just want to know to keep an eye out thru winter.
Thanks in advance...
Chris

With the 24" rims I think you will be limited to any height, I have 18.4 X 24 on my 715B but the width is more that your present rims will take I believe. I have 16.9 X 24 8 ply Ind Lug on my 460 IH Utility
Might look at a wider low profile tire on the front as the ones you have seem to raise that end of machine up

Get some 16.9 or 18.4 X 26 tires and wheels off a combine. They would lift you up about right. I have 18.4 X 26's off a JD 4400 on my D17.

All great input- and now I have to think about a tire for the front- the ones on there are bald. That is a good idea to lower frt. profile not sure if it helps or hurts handling? Any ideas on sizes that will use the stock rims? I think there are HD 6ply trailer tires on there now 7.5x15" or 16".
I really do not want to change rear rims- cant afford it. I will have to take my chances to find the 14.9 if thats all that will fit my rims.
Thank You everyone for the Help...

The parts book for the I60 / I600 lists the same part number for the wheel to use on both the 14.9 and 16.9 x 24 tires and a different number for the 12.4 x 24 tires. it would seem logical this might hold true for the I40 also. I measured the offset of the wheels on my I60 and on the 580 CK case, they are not the same. I would stick with the wheels you have, which are most likely the correct ones with the proper offset for your tractor, and just upsize to a 16.9 x 24 tire. Oddly enough, the Case 580CK only has 14.9 tires, and the I60 has 16.9's. The 16.9's are about 3" taller. On my D-17, the 16.9's are about 7" taller than the 14.9's on the WD-45, both have 13"wide rims. The height to width ratio must be a lot different for R1 and R4 tires. Combine tires are not R4
