I was wondering if a 180 degree thermostat will be a OK in my C.It has the pressurized system and I don't know if that will be too hot.Also,is changing the brake bands a real chore?God bless and Happy Thanksgiving.

Can't help you with the thermostat. Changing the brake bands isn't very hard, just picky. Once you remove the brake cover, you will need to drive out the pins that thread through the ends of the bands. Then you can pull the old bands out. I would attach a pieces of stout, flexible wire to the end of the band that will be pulled through - you can use it to lessen the challenge of threading the new band back through. Once the bands are in place, replace the pins, adjust the tension scews, and replace the covers. Have fun! This will all go relatively smoothly as long as the build-up of dirt, mouse nests (and worse), oil and grease and old bolts in the brake housings isn't too nasty. I had to spend time tediously poking and blowing junk out of mine.

To add to Daves response, if the varmits didn't take refuge in the finals, other than some rusty adjusters, the bands should come out okay. If varmits are or were in there, ready yourself for the smell..... The 180 stat should work out fine. I have a 180 in my B and it doesn't even reach the Green area after workin' all day.....

 I haven't had experience with brakes on a C , but I do repair and recore radiators as part of my restoration business. That said , a 180 is exactly what you want for best performance and engine life. Engines are heat pumps and need to operate in a temperature range that suppoerts full cumbustion of the fuel,  so that fuel isn't getting past the rings and into the crankcase, and that condensation,  which occurs with every heat-up and cool-down cycle,  is driven out of the engine. If your radiator is clean internally and externally, your fan belt is tight and your waterpump is in good working order you should have no cooling problems and you should have a temperature under load of 190-200 degrees. If it runs hotter check your timing , it could be retarded, or your mixture could be lean.  Run  a cap with 4lb. pressure rating. Hope this helps. Gary

Since no one brought it up, when you pull your brake bands around the brake drum. Make sure you have the band installed the right way, I put mine in backwards the first time and lets say it aint fun pulling it back out!! Just read your manual and ask questions on here!HTHS

On lots of the Cs the brake pins go into a blind hole and you will think, "How am I going to drive the pin out? I certainly can't pull them out."  Not to worry. The casting is pretty thin at the blind end of the hole and a peck or too in the right spot opens up a hole to drive the pins out. Anybody that says getting the old bands out and new ones in is easy has never done one. Lifting the whole seat frame and fenders including the fender supports off as a unit saves time if you can get the brake peddle shaft to cooperate.
