Can anyone tell me if the original radiator on a CA was orange or black?
Also while we are at it, were the radiator fins on a G orange or black? I see some photos showing the G radiator tank orange with black fins.

Just an FYI paint is an insulator and will reduce the efficiency of your radiator.

Most radiators werent painted at least all of ours arent.

I'm thinking they weren't painted at all. As has been said, the paint would have a tendency to clog the cooling fins. If I were fixing one up for show, I would mask off the finned area and paint the tanks black or orange. Depends on your liking. I would say most of them were sprayed around from the factory. What that means is, they were not painted before they were put on, and the painter tried not to get too much paint on them when he was fogging everything else orange. Only reason the headlight buckets arent orange on most tractors is that it was faster to put them on after the rest of tractor was painted than it was to tape up the lenses. That's what I take away from watching the promo films from the day.
If you did a true-to-form resto on a lot of these tractors, they would never make show queens, and wouldn't get too many trophies. They were more worried about "go" than "show" back then.

Had a worker at a radiator shop tell me they use a black dye, which supposedly doesn't affect cooling.

I googled radiator paint and the first hit was Eastwood Products specialty radiator paint specifically for painting an engine radiator. $14.99 per can. It says most radiators take 2 cans. In stock at Jeg's.

I did some resarch on other forums and some say that a black radiator will disipate more heat than aluminum or copper unpainted as long as you do not get the paint too thick. I doubt it'll make much difference driving down Main Street in the parade!
