    Posted: 15 Dec 2024 at 8:39am
The variable speed header drive sheave is stuck in the slow position, out against the stop bolt heads on the F3. What is the trick to getting it free, please? My mechanic did this a few years ago but I don't know how he did it. I'm preparing it for sale and hope to have this taken care of.

If anyone needs a good F3 with heads I will be listing it on FB Marketplace soon.

Don't know how it could be stuck. Hyd hose connected and pressure applied while running should move it. It's just a piston.

I'll give it a whack, maybe that's all it needs. Thanks.

To be stuck in "SLOW" speed, the belt is at the top of the lower sheaves, not down inside the sheaves. Meaning the sheaves are not spread apart, they are already squeezed together.

I thought against the bolt heads or stops is set at slowest speed. I think it's stuck, the speed control rocker switch won't make it change speeds. I guess the switch could be bad. Thanks.

Those header drives usually require the corn head to be hooked up and running at full throttle to get them to slow down.

Against bolt heads on drive pulley will slowest speed. Hast to be running to move especially if speeding up. Sounds like you electric over hydraulic has a problem. Can't imagine it being able to stick unless something wrong in lower pulley.

Seems like the upper sheaves aren't getting the oil released to be able to slow down. I'm thinking electrical, but could be the hyd valve itself. Unplug the hose on the upper sheaves. Then. remove the hose coupler and run the machine with the header running. Oil should squirt out and the sheaves will then slow down.

On my L3 the solenoid coils are bad for getting corroded and not grounding. It could be just that simple. We take a little wire brush on a dremel tool and clean the cup and groundind ring on the coil

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all of your help. I tried it again today it worked fine. I assume I had tried it with the header drive off before. Thanks again!
