I own a D17, single front wheel, high crop with the 6 cylinder N/A diesel. How rare is this tractor? Have only found a few pictures online with the single wheel high crop and they only had gas engines.

Not sure how rare. Dad took a picture of a D17 hi crop single front wheel propane near Beatrice NE several years ago!

Welcome to the forum.
Would have to see more pictures. The front single wheel doesn’t look high crop. Hopefully some of the other gentlemen that have more knowledge on high crops will chime in

According to Swinford’s book, only about 40 single front wheel diesels were made in 58-59, and no other numbers shown for the later years. The grille, oval muffler, lights on fenders, etc appear to be series 3 or newer. Maybe someone converted it to its present configuration. Who knows? Please provide the serial number for the tractor. Would definitely tell more of the story.

This is the only picture I have right now. Will have to cut the briar patch down to get to the serial number. My daughter was wanting to start going to tractor shows and i thought this would be something different from the John Deere and Farmall crowds.

We are the second owner of it. The original owner had it set up with the spray boom and all for cotton and corn. I thought the drop boxes on the rear axle housing is what considered it to be a high crop.

All D17s had drop boxes on the rear axles. |

I don't think it's a factory high crop. Looks like someone just put taller wheels on the back of a regular D17 and called it a high crop.

Looking at this photo, several things stand out..
The hydraulic leaver is on the steering column with light on fenders and oval muffler. Makes it a series III... It could have originally been a high crop with longer final drop housings. As the fenders are located much higher from the tire than a standard row crop ...... The photo I have included is a standard row crop D17 IV tractor with 38" rear and a 16" front . Macon brings up a good point with the fenders. Or is it an allusion and tires spaced out far away.

On your D17 it has the standard fork, hc forks were extended 3 inches. for the solid cast wheel 9-10 tire or the spoke type wheel 7.50 -16 tire.the rear wheels would be 38 in spin outs. have a good one Bill P

Brings up a good point... I believe the the fenders only look like there higher in regard to the rear tires. Due to the wide wheel spacing and photo angle.... So it is a standard row crop tractor with 38" rear and SFW. These tractors are referred to as high clearance tractors... |

Nice looking tractors everyone. Neat to see some single front wheel tractors, don’t see those often. Bill that’s a nice collection that you have, did you do the restorations?
