Found a JD 8 ton running gear for $150! We needed another hay wagon and I couldn’t pass up the deal. Sanded it down and painted it after a few minor repairs to it. Ordered red oak materials from a lumber mill and we built a really nice wagon. It was a good winter project and took about 2 weeks to complete. Luckily got some good tires for free from our local tire dealer. Just had to pay for mounting. Odd having JD on our AC farm but I’m starting to come around to it.

In my opinion they are the best running gear ever built. The ones I've had, you could grease every pivot point. Any wagon with "non-greaseable" steering rods or other pivot points just seem to wear prematurely. Looks nice, good luck with it.

Thanks, looking forward to hay season to putting it to good use. It does have grease points at all the right places. My JD buddies have been giving me a good ribbing in a fun way telling me I had finally come around to the Green side lol. Steve I thought about painting it orange but the metal tag would give it away lol. My wife even said to remove the tag and paint it orange. Just didn’t feel right doing that.

Looks good, but I hope you can keep that red oak outta the weather. It don't last as long outdoors as white oak, at least not around here, in the soggy mid atlantic...

JD did make excellent running gears, especially for ‘road’ use. They would trail straight as an arrow.

We have stacked wagons in the past in the off season to keep them stored in our shed. Actually pretty easy to do with ramps I made a few years ago, 2 people are required to do it. Once loaded back them both in the shed. Used motor oil is a cheap preserver. May go that route or a preserver of some other type. Once the motor oil soaks in for month its no issue with quality of the hay.

super nice wagon you have there, i have trying to find a good running for a while dont care what brand would just like to have a nice wagon one with a hoist would be a bonus

We have two jd gears also. Along with two Dion, two pequea, electric and allis Actually was painting a rim today to mount a new tire.
