I have neighbours with 3208 cat in a 2255 white. What turbo would work good on this engine in a hot farm, local brush pulling scenario, but still a stock engine. a lot of cubic inches to work with here.

If you don't increase fuel delivery and RPM's you're wasting your time with a change in turbochargers.

Your also wasting your time with a 3208! Terrible engines! The 3406 was a little bit better engine in that department. Not much, but a little better. I worked on a lot of 3208's in truck chassis', and I got one word for those engines: "duds".... Maybe they work better in Tractors? I dunno. They sure didn't work well in our trucks at work... I think the "Warpath" Massey and "Bad Kitty" Oliver are running 3208's. Blocks anyway. Doubt there is much if any stock to them. Not sure what "Silver Bullet" has in it.

This 2255 white/cockshutt/oliver is originally naturally aspirated but buddy would like to put a turbo on it to wake it up, He got it as a half built puller with 30.5 cut rubber on the back and tractor all striped down. We have came across a Garrett GT4294 wastegated turbo off a 60 series Detroit that he will likely try out. It is for local brush pulling . Its not going on the NTPA circuit. I apologize for putting NON ALLIS tractors on this forum aswell.

3406 was and remains the best engine Cat ever made, all too many older units overhauled two three even for the fourth time and still hammering out 450-600hp.
The 3208 is junk, a disposable bored cylinder block with minimal cylinder wall thickness where they IF overbored to correct egg shape or ring worn bores will get hot. Two rings per piston, when they wore out they were exchanged as all too many tried to rebuild they would NOT last, cat would supply New "Reman" engines where the used heads would go on a new block, saw this over my career many times. A turbo on any diesel will clean up smoke but will not deliver more fuel, delivering more fuel to an already at capacity engine just eats them up faster. |

The 3406 is a 6 cylinder. The 3208 is a V-8. It's been a lot of years since I had any experience with the 3208, but IIRC, the 3208 replaced the 1100 (????)
The 3208 was the stock engine in a few farm tractors and some combines. Admittedly the 3208 wasn't the best engine ever built, but if that's what the guy has, it's what he has to work with. There are a few 3208 engines on the tractor pulling circuit, that seem to rum well. I have no idea about longevity. Edited by WF owner - 01 Oct 2018 at 4:38am |

Thanks for the clarification, Ed. I know Masseys ran Perkins, not sure why I thought the pullers were using Cat engines. AaronSEIA
