Can the sprocket be removed on an HD4 with the tracks still together? What has to be done? Is it worth the time, or just break the tracks? Thanks Tracy

Yes they can be , slack idler off as far as possible , pry chain over sprocket and work off , and or removing bolts from sprocket once track is slack
It takes a bit to move track and sprocket together but it can be done , found out when track has come off from front idler it is possible to do many things without splitting track to get it back on . |

hardest part for me was to get the adjuster freed as you have to back it all out of the way to be able to push your front idler back to give you enough slack to pull the tracks off. took me 3 hours using a skidloader and plenty of wd=40 to get mine freed up on the left side. an hour on the right side. you will have to jack the machine up first so the track will clear the rollers underneath. have fun

i have never done it this way but a fellow told me he got the idler backed all the way in to give him as much slack as he could and used straps, coma-longs to get the pressure off the back sprocket and just took the bolts off and pulled the sprocket. might work defintely would be easier than i did.

Thinking I might make me a bracket to hold punch, and drive the master pin out. Split the tracks and get it done. If I had a track press, I would have already done it. Thanks tracy

Problem is when removing the master pin - it should be replaced when installing , also shims and spacers in the master link as that link is not cupped on ends so a spacer is used .
Removing the sprocket will give you all the room you need . Rear seals can be found oversized and a speedy sleeve installed onto axle to repair worn axle if it is worn - it did that one one set of axles I had - with the AC 615 backhoe attachment on the machine i had I broke a couple axles and replaced them without splitting track - same when I replace clutch shaft gear and bull gear - never split the track . |
