Got six inches here. Captain , did you get the crazy snow squalls earlier in the week? They only lasted a couple of minutes but the snow came down so hard, you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.
Sadly, it will be all gone by monday afternoon. What a disappointing winter |

Was just warm enough for rain here. Whew! Sure glad it wasn't snow here yesterday! We would've been in the same boat Cap! Man, that rain just hammered here all day yesterday.... Steve@B&B

Between the snow Friday and the rain yesterday I had about .8" in the rain gauge. Much needed too! Hopefully the rain extinguished the brush pile I burned Saturday.

Ugh daryl. Feeding heifers in it is bad enough. Good thing you made some nice rotobales last summer so they could at least be inside

Ya never know what Mother Nature is gonna dish out. First she hits ya with an early tease of 60 degrees, and then she hits ya with 60 inches of snow! LOL! Pretty mushy round' here with all the rain. I have a new temporary pond down the lower end of the property. Steve@B&B

Captaindana, You got a great snow. Congratulations. IMO your hayfields received approximately 9.5 units of Nitrogen per acre from 13" of snowfall,,, or 0.733 lb Nitrogen (actual unit N? or percentage of N?) per inch of snow. Theoretically using "actual units of N", if it all melts slowly & is all absorbed, then your hayfields will receive the 9.5 units. But on average, maybe 30% is actually absorbed as 70% is lost due to runoff melt? If "percentage of N" then even less. Regardless whatever atmospheric N that is captured within the multitude of air spaces within each snow flake is "free N." That free N could bind to the snow water molecules to be absorded into your hayfield's soil or escape back into the atmosphere via higher air temp volatile gaseous stages..? Old wise-tails or old farmer's realized crop yields?? How does a wise-tail evolve? Is it a made-up idea/story per someone's unexplained experienced? Or does it actual contain validity? Numerous older farmers (those using horses to farm) grew oats each year as a horse staple feedstock. During their era, countless experiences circulated how if their spring oats were seeded during late winter/early spring snowfall events or received a large snow after seeding then all or most all, attested to higher than normal oat yields during that year's harvest. In memory of Shameless, he would appreciate your post's title: 14 plus of Pretty
