I saw this item on Craigslist; my knowledge of Detroit Diesels being very limited I take it that this puller will NOT work on a 2-71. If it did, however, I would probably buy it 'just in case'.

Any inputs?

I was hoping that someone would chime in saying "Oh, that will work fine on a 2-71" or somesuch; since it appears that no one else knows for sure either I will just give this one a pass :-)

Seems it will work on any 71 series blower - but then it's not that often one needs  to pull gear to replace bearings or seals .
i replaced one lobe in a 2-71 blower and used no special tools . Was told they had to be replaced as set - but shop I got lobe from said the just be sure timing was right so no clash between replacement and present unit .
previous owner had plugged drain hole in bottom of housing and water got in and froze breaking lobe - which then locked engine - bought machine at good price and repair was not expensive - just time - and ended up selling the HD5B 4 years later
