    Posted: 30 Dec 2016 at 8:06pm
Just changed hydro fluid in my 1983 6080 and both filters, filled the transmission and the rear end. My problem is it won't prime was working fine before just wanted to give it a little love and changed the fluid. This is my second time doing this and a don't recall this problem before. Any one have any thoughts on priming procedure?

Thanks

Do the filters screw on upside down? If they do I always fill the filter full of fluid before I screw them on. Fluid change on my dads 6060 went well, so I am not sure what the problem maybe other than air in the suction tube maybe. I think it should be self priming but I am sure someone on the forum will know.

Common on 6080 if you don't fill both filters with oil, especially the one's with two filters.    MACK

Far as I know there's no filter on the suction side of those tractor there's a screen down there in the block the safest thing to do is remove the pressure lines on the side of the pump use a vacuum cleaner to create a vacuum and pull the oil up into pump   start the motor with the Lines lose at pump. run tractor see if you get oil pressure shut it off and tighten lines up. Don't run tractor too long. Did you clean the screen on the suction side?

Got it going this morning had to fill the filters twice and then it took. I topped it off and will let it sit for a day or so and make sure it does not lose it.
Thank you for the information

I have been using Agco hydro filters mostly, but when I change engine oil mid season I pick up a Wix filter at the local Auto Value store

Late to game, but this happened to me today.

Filled filter, and filled pump through one of the lines on the top (toward driver). Hopefully works tomorrow.

Prime the pump from the top and immediately start the tractor. Don't wait.

Dr. Allis that is exactly what I did. Primed at the top, put everything back together, turned the wheel until flow through, cycled hydraulics, and everything works! Just wanted to post in case others search for this in the future.

Thanks all!
