The 2nd tractor I just picked up has a rear pto, the previous own said he turned it on once to see it run but it did not turn and he turned it off quickly because he heard that you were not supposed to have the clutch engage with no load.  I brought the tractor home and with the engine off hit the switch and heard a double click, not as loud as the big click the front pto makes.  Guess the question I have is, is there any truth to not spinning it up without an implement hooked up?  I'm think it should work if I'm hearing a click but maybe the connection is weak ala bad switch?

A click tells you it energized. Whether it works is another thing. I have a manual home. I'll havta' read about the rear PTO operation.
