For the past few years I've been playing with the B series garden tractors and the 700 series tractors. A few years back, I picked up a Tractor from one of my nephews neighbors pretty cheap. Brought it home and tarped it over behind the barn. Well, I wanted to bring it in the barn and check it out being I didn't have to much time at the time of purchase to look it over real close. This thing was painted over sometime in its life so there isn't any badging on it. It does have the serial no tag though which says 654 002821. As I lifted the rear seat panel, to my surprise it has a giant pulley with a pretty serious looking drive belt going to it. This is the first time I see one of these puppies, so I'm not sure what I'm lookin' at. I went on Tractordata.com & started searchin to see what this thing is. I thought it might be a 3415, because I ID'd the engine and according to the Briggs ID numbers it's a 1971 15HP. (325431) So now here is where the confusion starts. In the Tractordata site I see that a 3314V has a Simplicity number of 990654. Hmmm, that matches the 654 that's by itself on the serial tag on the machine before the real serial number 002821. The 3415S that I looked up has a serial number of 990758. So, I guess this is a 3314V? I don't know what the V means. I'm having problems trying to find what that represents. I guess maybe this Tractor got a 15HP engine put in it at sometime, or I'm missin' somethin' somewhere. This also has the same lever on the side as my 716H. When you move it, there isn't much that moves out back probably because things get pretty rusty in these parts pretty quick! Any help would be appreciated........Pic is blurry. It's not your eyes... Hard to see. But looks like a Variable speed tractor.
But isn’t any of your other yellow Bs variable speeds

Mike, is that what the V stands for? Variable speed? The only thing I would say is variable speed is my hydro. My Yellow Tractors don't have anything like this under the seat pan. This does have a 3 speed tranny in it...

Hey Mike, I got you jealous? I didn't even know what I had! LMAO!! Steve, thanks for the parts tree breakdown. I found that breakdown last night after dinner. That definitely confirms what I have here. After cleaning all the leaves and gunk around the base of the engine, I found shiny new engine mounting bolts. Musta' got another engine put in it sometime in its lifetime. All the oil and crud protected the bolts. I yanked the engine and cleaned the mouse condo in the blower housing. Man, was that packed tight! That was worst than the ole' Big 10 blower housing. LOL! This will be next years project after the Big 10 is done. I'll work on the engine for this thing this Winter in the wire shop. I'll post a pic today of the whole thing. Thanks guys for the help! Steve@B&B

Mike, Has the hood. White in color with the checkerboard grille. Frame is Orange. Hood covers the Battery & fuel tank like a 700 series. According to the parts breakdown it's considered a Sovereign. Didn't get a chance to take a pic of it today. I'll get a pic of it tomorrow....

Maybe just the simpler Hi-Lo setup that was on the B110 instead of the variable speed setup seen on the B112. It must be a Simplicity made product but remember they also made tractors for Homelite, Penney, and Montgomery Ward.

After a couple days the Kroil is workin' into the joints of the variable speed linkage and things are loosening up. I was curious how this thing variable speed thing works. Never saw one of these before. Originally when I first purchased it a few years back, I didn't look under the rear seat pan. Thought it was just a regular old 3 speeder.... It's different!

Yup 6speeds we’re common around here. Nice tractor.
And looking at the book, doesn’t show variable speed. Must have been a simplicity only. Steve get a allis hood and make a one of a kind allis variable 718

Good morning. Yes, I have owned it for about 15 years. I sold the PTO attachment. I had the hood and grill re painted (scratches only). The AC decal, on the hood, is original. The body man was able to save it. The mower needs TLC. I put wider tires on the front and had the motor rebuilt. Question: How do you extend the exhaust through the hood so that the heat does not ruin the paint? Ross. |

Ross, I did the exact same thing you did. On our 716H, I
had a chrome extension on the muffler pipe to get the hot exhaust away
from the hood. You could see it in this pic of the wife plowin snow. I
used to just pull the extension off to open the hood. The wife had a
ball on that thing plowing snow. For the 714H I'm just putting together,
I'm gonna order an "S" pipe that's for a Power King GT with a Kohler.
I'm hoping it will work and come out from under the hood in the large
side opening. It bolts to the head, takes a tight 90 down about 4-5"
then takes another 90 and out the side. I'm gonna order the pipe this
week. I'll let ya know how it works... Steve@B&B |

Before you go too nuts on it, might wanna do some deep research and see if it's a prototype that found it's way into-the-wild... you may have a rare bird... After doing some looking, it COULD be a 3414V.... a 1971-75 range. It appears they made the tractor series with either a Hydrostatic, Shuttle, or Variator (hence the H, S, or V designations. The variator appears to be a 3 speed gear, with variable sheaves. They used higher power levels on the hydro and shuttle (gear), but they didn't go high power on the variator... probably for good reasons.

Dave, According to the 654 on the tag, from what I can find on this thing, its a 3314V. Seems this around a 1971. All the other model numbers I looked up have a different prefix number. The Briggs engine that's in it, comes up to be a 1971 15HP. Same year as the Tractor. I'm not sure if this is the original engine in it, or another engine was put it sometime in it's life. The choke and throttle cables look like they've never been off the engine, so I'm not sure if this thing is all original or not. Seems that way, but I'm not sure. Not a whole lot of info on this model. Don't know how many were made yet.... Steve@B&B
