I finally had a chance to get to the farm and take some pictures. I will post each engine kit or set of pistons in a separate post to minimize confusion.
This is a set of 4 WD 6.6:1 ratio pistons. Edited by Michael Crowe - 24 Jan 2018 at 3:11pm |

Wonderful. So, the WD-45 LPG piston really is the same piston/piston bowl as a D-17 gas engine, whereas the WD-45 gas is the cereal bowl design.

I would say the 7.25 : 1 WD45 kit would be a later kit, since they are the D17 design.
The parts book shows the 5.0:1 WD piston the same part number as the 7.25:1 WD45, and I would assume, since it is a WD piston design, would be a flat top piston. Great post.

Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.

Just to add a bit of light on the 7.25:1 lpg piston, when I rebuilt my 1953 WD45 Distillate it had the 5.0:1 compression ratio pistons, part number 223507. The pictures I took were not the best but my recollection is that they were dished; could be flat tops, but definitely not the recessed bowl like the lpg piston.
The parts books I have shows the 5.0:1 piston, 223507 the same as the 7.2:1 compression piston. I don't know if it is a typo, or if the 7.25:1 was a separate piston than the 223507. My suspicion is that it is not a typo, because the parts books shows the 223507 to also be a WD45 piston, but it does not show the lpg piston to also be a WD piston or even a 226 power unit piston. Another interesting sidenote, when I bought my rebuild kit from ACGO to rebuild my WD45 Distillate, it came with the lpg pistons. |

WC and WD kero /distallate engines have the cereal bowl pistons,i dont know what their part number is but i,d say if they went on a wd 45 crank you would get 7.25 compression. They sit down a fair way in the 201 cylinder.

One of my D-17's had the (7.25/1) 229717 pistons, the same as the photo above. Reliant's 7.25/1 pistons are virtually identical.
