I am building a WD and WD45 pulling tractor and I have read on here where guys are using 175 pistons out of gas engines, just wondering if I can use the same parts for both the WD and WD45 and what other parts would be helpful to gain power.

Yes both are WD45 cranks that I will use for the build. What other parts do you suggest and any info would be very helpful as I would like to get started with this asap and do it right the first time.

The WD (201) block used shims for both the main bearings and rod bearings. If you are using a 201 block, with a 226 crankshaft, you will need to properly shim the main bearings. You will need to either find a set of rods from a 226 or shim the 201 rods to the 226 crankshaft.
Although I have never encountered the problem, I have been told that some 201 blocks didn't have enough clearance for the 4.5" stroke without removing some material from inside the block. When replacing the oil pan, make sure to see Don's video at the top of the page. Dan73's link above gives you an excellent source for differences in rebuild kits. Some people swear by flat top pistons. Others (including me) prefer the Power Crater design. There are arguments each way, but you have to decide what you prefer. |
