I pulled my 45 last summer for the first time. It has 14.9 28, speed limit is 3,first gear seems to slow. I think I would have done better if I could roll a little faster than 3 before the load starts to catch up. I am in the 5500 lb class, I know 2nd is to high since it is about 40 % faster than 1st. I have a chance to get some diesel gears, I think these are approx. 20% slower than the gas gears. So If I put in the diesel gears I would roll about 3 mph in second if my calculations are correct. Would this make a substantial difference in performance? I could also put a blue spring in for a little more speed. I thought I would try it and if it still wont compete well I would have enough gear to turn 38s, but I would be back to 2.5 mph in first. What do you guys suggest. I would really like to try and make the 28s work, they are very old and road worn, I can also top cut them per the rules. I am hoping if I get the gearing dialed in and balance, I can compete. Any suggestions? Thanks,JM

My club doesn't check rpm, as long as it doesn't raise suspicion they don't worry. If they bring any thing up regarding rules they usually follow natpa div 2 rules.

The gears will help and if you can run more rpms can help.
