Looking to upgrade the power director in our 190. Really want to keep it vs. just deleting it. Can anyone out there point me in the direction of where to get one or what i need to build one.

Unless you want to machine one out of steel, you have a piece of cast iron spinning at engine rpm made of 2 halves held together by 6 small bolts. Pullers in the past state if left to max 3000 rpm and - depend on who you talk to 400-600 hp it will hold. There is nothing heavier than the 9 plate clutch. 5 plate low 4 plate high. Pressure to the cluthes above 350 psi is iffy.. These units are getting old and metal fatigue is a factor. Slippage is one thing - an exploded clutch is dangerous.

The power director I removed, had been reworked so there was no neutral between shifting with it. I would be willing to get rid of it. Not going to use it anymore. It has its ownhyd pump that is belt driven from crank. Pm if you interested

I would be interested in the modification to have no neutral - unless one just had a valve that would make it that away instead of mods to the clutch..??
Any way back in the early 70's we ran at more Rpm than that Ed, in a 190 and later a 185 at about 250 300 hp with a stock PD unit - 30.5 tires 7th gear in 7000# on some tracks, 6th gear on most tracks in 7000 and 9000 # classes. There was a 190 - Taylor and Cheek out of N Ky that ran with twin turbos that ran the PD for a while. Later took it out and put in the 70230321 coupler with the center snap ring as we did. This 190 info came from JB who followed and helpd them ... |

The one I have was setup with flow limiters so it shifted like a TA with no neutral pause
