Have a 600 cu in IH 400 engine, how difficult would it to be transplant that motor into a 7030 20 speed power director tractor? Wanting to use for mph and open stock classes.

Saying this with all due respect, but WHY would you want to do this? A Detroit or Deutz maybe,, but a true IH engine in an Allis? C Mon,, I'm old school I guess, but this just ain't right,,, but I bet it will spark this forum up! At least I hope so!

I have billet rods, pistons, new sleeves, cam and 12000.00 worth of parts in my 600. Still needs pump and charger. Dry head 330 cfm. Have owned 7030 and 7050 in the past. like the style. Had hoped to use the Detroit block, but have been informed that internally the motor and head mounts are substantially different, and my kit will not work in a Series 40 block. Additionally, was hoping to utilize the ih rotary pump, as models are now available with 600 plus cc's per 1000 strokes. The ih pump was the factory pump on last run 7080s, and the N6 combine, per my research. Replacing the power director with a steel flywheel and multiple disc clutch removes the high side gears in the 7030, but the remaining gears would offer multiple gears within 8mph to 16mph at rated rpm, more at 3000, for mile per hour classes. I bud of mine has 7 D-21s, a WD  45 with a 430 Lincoln engine, and a dozen other various creations, besides a prostock and superfarm D21. His prostock has a 6 inch billet head he made with a hand grinder---don't know if he'd agree with my actions, but he has played outside the AC box a number of times. ALL OPINIONS, COMMENTS WELCOME.

Your research has a little bad information, but probably doesn't make any difference. The AmBach M-100 injection pump was NEVER used on any 7000 series tractors, including the last of the 7080's. If you find a 7080 with an AmBach fuel system, the entire engine was replaced at some point in its life. Only the 8000 series tractors and N-5/N-6 combines from the 1982 model year (Oct of 81 build and newer) and newer had that fuel system. The last year or so of the 7000 series tractors had BOSCH injectors, but still had a Roosa-Master injection pump. As far as the transmission goes, I'd be removing 2nd gear from the 7030 transmission and installing 4th gear from a 7040-60-80. Then, you will have three very close ratios to choose from. 3rd, slow 4th, fast 4th and 5th.  Also remember that a Power Shift tractors range transmission has a 20% faster HIGH RANGE than Power director tractors.  I come from a part of the country where a class like you are talking about pretty much is dominated by 466's, not 600 inch engines. Be careful what you build. You may not fit the rules.
