Sons latest addition to his snow plow line / pusher attachment to add to his basic plow .

He is now turning his production to tree pullers and other dirt working attachments but still making plows for next snow season or taking pre orders for later delivery
it seems now compact tractor attachments has become another line that has expanded beyond the skid loader line .
He has now moved his production to West Concord MN from my shop .
One big advantage he noticed - MN sales tax is less in that area on both his material cost and tax on units sold .

Why is he paying sales tax on materials? Should be exempt, as long as the materials are incorporated into a product that is sold as taxable…at least that is true in NY state.

Some items are taxable , and MN as also come up with a new tax - delivery tax which comes into being shortly .
Other part is area here has their sales taxes where local government can charge a sales tax on top of State sales tax , then county also has a add on sales tax , next there is a sales tax that can be added as a zone or district of city tax . Seems also State Democrats in power now allow special sales tax on top of regular city sales tax for special sales tax for roads to get to a business to purchase something .
Mpls MN has a 10% sales tax when all added in as does St Paul MN - rest of outstate is around 7%

Yes, but materials incorporated into making an item are exempt, the tax is paid when the item is sold in MN. All the various local taxes are collected then.

The delivery tax is an interesting attempt to fund highways. Guess they don’t want to raise the gas/diesel highway tax.

I remember when MN passed a 3% sales tax to solve every problem MN had in funding .
Now with local taxes added in it's 8.5% and in some areas closer to 10% as local tax for roads , stadiums , and other things .
No problem though as politicians get a raise , school funding held up so extra money .

Told son he needs to move business to S Dakota as more tax friendly .
Then buyer could pay their own sales tax -unless he sold from state itself .
