The Allis-Chalmers HD-5 crawler tractor, better known as a bulldozer, was produced by the Allis-Chalmers Company in West Allis, Wisconsin, from 1946 to 1955. It was a small bulldozer with a wide range of options for farmers, loggers, building contractors and the military. Annual production averaged around 3,000 units. HD-5 production peaked in 1953 when 4,278 units were produced. Allis-Chalmers built 29,255 HD-5 crawler tractors over its 10-year production run.

Need help on a fair price for a 1948 HD5 Crawler, serial # 14644 with 2,671 hours. Oil is not contaminated, radiator is full, however we have been unable to get it to turn over. Muffler is capped, needs seat and sand blasting. Has not run since 1996. Has front bucket. Would like to see it restored, not scrapped.

Somewhere around $500 to $2000 as it weighs about 10,000 or 5 ton at $200 a ton .
On one i bought that was locked up , ended up being the blower lobe was broken from freezing water , the drain hole in blower was plugged off and water had got into it. Engine is easy to work on and if rest of machine is fair to good they are easy to restore . Trany will be single reverse speed unless upgraded , under-carriage is a big part of full machine as far as restore . Check back housing to be sure the outer bearing area behind sprockets isn't cracked. Good luck and if you need more info PM me or post here .

Lot of HD5 machines out there yet , rear housing and track and rollers are the same part used on the HD6 machines .
Problem now is getting parts as supply of new are next to unobtainable here in the US yet users from down under can source parts from CHINA for undercarriage . I have had 5 different HD5 machines over the years and still have my first one I bought in 1972 a 1955 HD5G - Replaced the HD5B with a Fiat Allis FD5 with a 6 way power blade and 3 speed power shift transmission - and for use as a loader my AC 715 TLB does that or the New Holland Skid Loader . |
