Ok. I see sooo many pullers listing they use 15.5 -38. My question is the 14.9 -38 shows on the firestone size chart that it has more contact area per square inch to the ground . And it's taller so the next lug is closer to contact . Just confused why the 15.5-38?
15.5-38. 189 14.9-38. 200 I have both sets and the 14.9 visually are taller . Just curious to the pros to comment why wud I use the 15.5-38 over 14.9 's Mounting on 14 inch rim . |

Because 14.9 x 38's are almost impossible to find anymore.

I guess in these parts I had no issues . Funny I figured Illinois or southern parts u see more . So is my point valid or off the rocker for reason to use the 14.9's

If you aren't worried about a speed limit i would go with the 14.9s. (Not to brag), but i have a beautiful set of 14.9 151s that are about 15 years old and hard as Chinese arithmetic, but i am to close to the speed limit as it is and need rpm, so the 14.9s are on a 720 diesel for looks and i found a set or 15.5 armstrongs to pull with. They seem to be working fine. If you have the power for the taller tire, and aren't worried about blowing the horn my vote is the 14.9s.

The 15.5s are a low profile tire. Not as much sidewall to rinckel at low pressure.

youve somewhat answered your own question. Alot of the rules specify a certain "foot print" and the 15.5 fits and the 14.9 doesnt. That is why alot of the rules say 15.5 max for such and such class
