I have a series 1 D17. It has a hydraulic control valve with a single outlet bolted on the left side of the tractor. It seems to be stuck and I'm not sure if it just slides in and out or what. I was wondering if this could make my hydraulic lift on my 3 pt not stay up? I have checked the oils and they are good so it must not be the cylinder or the internal hose. I had one recommendation on here about a valve on the pump being bad but i wanted to ask about the aux hydraulic valve before I go tearing into the pump.

Show us a picture and save a thousand words. If the "add on" valve has a return line to the sump, it could possibly leak past the valve and back to the sump letting pressure off of your lift arm cylinder. There is no way for us to know without seeing it or a drawing of it.
I doubt that add on is your problem though. |

Not very good pics but this is what I have. Looks to me like the round black knob should slide in and out but I'm not sure and seems pretty stiff.

It looks like the transport valve was replaced with a selector valve. The knob should slide in and out. It looks like it is only a shuoff for the remote. Normaly a selector valve is used along with the transport valve.
The problem would seem to be in the pump. Nay be a check valve not seating or a control linkage problem.

Like Joe says, that looks like a selector valve to put fluid to the remote or the lift arms. I don't believe there is any way that can be letting your lift arms sink. since the system is one way and there is no return line there.

Not what I was hoping for but will be a good winter project. I'll have to hit the manuals. The only way to get to the pump is split the tractor right?

Nope. It drops out the bottom of the torque housing directly under the fuel tank.

So today I went out and put a water pump on the D17, I decided to mess with the auxiliary Hydraulic valve. If I Have the valve pushed in towards the front of the tractor it will raise the brush hog but then almost immediately creeps down pretty fast. If I have the valve pulled out toward the back it will not raise the brush hog but if i raise it in forward position and then hurry and switch valve to back position it held the brush hog for a couple hours. Does this make sense to anyone

It means the tractors hydraulic pump hold valve has a problem. All you're doing is blocking the flow so it can't settle down when you lock-out the add-on selector valve.

I called my local AC dealer yesterday and he was unsure of the valve and had to call me back Monday. Anybody know where I can buy it online?

The control "valve" as far as I know is a series of check balls and springs. If you read the repair manual, it may be evident that a simple cleaning and maybe a couple replacement parts will put tours back in order.
The manual also takes you through a diagnosis with a pressure gauge installed in your remote connection, to figure out what might need attention. |

I got a 1963 Allis Chalmers d17 series 3 and this is the first time I ever been around a d17 so every thing is new to me. Well any ways I'm having some problems with the hydraulics they raise up but their real slow and also I was wonder if this is normal remote hydraulic set up for the D17.

There is a oring in hold posion valve that could leak. Replace both orings when you work on hold posion valve. MACK
