The other day I was putting my d17 series 1 power director together and I got .005 .018 I had put all new clutch linings in wondering if I did something wrong.

At each of the three "stations", the total shim thickness is to be .205". So you might have .080" short shims in LOW range......you might have .070" short shims in High range......so then you MUST have .055" in the center (long shims). Your post doesn't make sense the way it is written.

If you have identical thickness shim stacks at each of the same locations (low-neutral-high) and that they add up to .205" total at each station, you should be good. Now, you have replaced ALL the driving discs with new ?? Have you also replaced all the separator plates with new ???   Installation of any new wear parts will probably cause you to have to ADD some short shims to each clutch pack and remove some long shims from neutral to get the proper "squeeze" of the low and high side clutches and still add up to .205" total shim height.

Well, you said you had replaced all the "clutch linings", which I assume you meant the brass covered driving discs. And, then there are the steel separator plates. Any new parts installed may change whatever the shim stacks were before you took it apart.
