84 gleaner n6 feeder house

When i speed the feeder house/header up it has a good amount of howling noise, when I slow it down it goes away. But at the speed I run at I need the feeder house/header at the speed that makes the annoying howling noise. Is there a fix for this noise or no? I do not notice any bearing s that have gone

If the right side has the belt on the small sheaves, you'd better be checking that bearing on the left side as I have described. Also, the upper variable sheaves have bearings that need to be repacked with grease every couple of years. Maybe they are dry and failing. I'd think if you had feed drum bearing problems you'd be experiencing chain issues not a howling noise. Disconnect the corn head and see if the noise is still there or not with the drive fully sped up.

I would second bearings on the variable sheaves. Go step by step. First as described disconnect head and try. Next remove chain from the reverser and try again. If noise persists remove the belt from the rear feeder chain and try again to see if the noise goes away, if not remove belts from the front chain and try again. If it still howls it has to be bearings on the front shaft that the header hooks up to or the bearings in the top variable assembly. You could remove the variable speed belt to eliminate the front shaft but you should be able to tell where the noise is coming from by that point.
