Our 8030 fires as soon as you hit the key even without the throttle open, I only open the throttle in colder weather. So I will say it starts easy but it does like to smoke especially if you put a load on it.

My 8070 had 4900hrs on the clock when I got it.No gov action below 1500rpm and wouldn't start hot without the bucket of water trick.O/H'd the oil drinker and put an A pump on it with M&W style pistons/sleeves.Fires on first stroke @30deg F.

This is a factory built 3500 MK II industrial engine that I installed in my 220. Minemec pump-starts real good. 190 hp on dyno with factory pump setting. |

It is a pull to run - push to stop mechanical control. The diaganol bracket that you see
on the running engine holds the control cable. Edited by Calvin Schmidt - 12 May 2015 at 1:28pm |

Well as some may know, I was having trouble with it warming up while working it. I believed the problem to be the new thermostats from agco. I had the old thermostat housing from the 8030 that we had put a intercooler on. Took the newer original thermostats from that and put them in the 8050. Now she runs just like it should. Moral of the story is that these engines need more coolant flow than what the new thermostats from agco can provide. Ones like the old original are from Mr. Gasket 4367 180* Stat.

I put a set of the M&W Power seal piston and sleaves in my 7060, i believe they were called, Starts easy, my 8050 has an agco overhaul kit, it starts okay, plenty of power and little smoke. Before the M&W kit, the 7060 started so so.
If i could find a M&W overhaul kit i think i would buy it!

Well it's been a long time, but finally got the old girl dynoed. 210hp with 28 pounds of boost. It will be getting tore back apart for a cam and flywheel swap in the coming weeks. Then redynoed without changing the fuel. More to come.

Sent the cam to Vogel manufacturing to get the cam reground. Hopefully it's back in a week or two. It's busy season for them.

Cam is on its way back. Got new lifters, the 7040 flywheel is at the machine shop to be ground and pressure plate is ordered. Hopefully start on the tractor later next week. Working on a couple 2006 Cummins engines for a guy then working on the wife's little pickup.

Hopefully better torque, better fuel economy, less smoke with the cam. And hopefully the heavier 7040 flywheel will be better on the chopper. Like a big flywheel on a square baler.

And now over a year later, has it been dynoed since the cam grind?
This was definitely an interesting thread. |

I forgot about this thread. Yeah I did redyno it. No more power but it had less boost, So that tells me it's moving more air in and out so less heat. Went from 28 psi of boost to 22-24 psi. So Less restriction. I believe it had more torque on the chopper, but nothing like having a counter balanced crankshaft. Would love to find one and swap it in. Thanks for checking up on me guys!

I have the A pump on my 8070 set at 32 degrees BTDC, it smokes just a light haze under full load.

talked to you on phone once Kevin...Think mines at 32 also but smoke more than that.Has tips for the 4wd 426 (7580?) Don't know if that would matter. HP is 220 but it hazes under light load too. Pump guy went through torque capsule last spring and helpd some but never clean.

My timing is around 28* I think. Maybe I will set it up a tad and see if It cleans up some. It's smokes pretty good under full load.

Ok guys I'm going to update this thread. I never could get the thing to stop smokimg so much. I couldnt figure it out. Started to really piss me off. I emailed Dennis at Fair valley performance this spring and talked to him about it. He recommended I turn the torque capsule in a half turn. If it made any difference I should give it another half turn. Well I did and it didn't make any difference. So now by this time I was really getting pissed. So after 1st crop I took the pump off and injectors out and set them to him. Now before I built the motor, I took this pump to my local diesel shop. K&S fuel injection in weston wi. They said they balanced it and set it to 8070 rpms and to 140cc as I specified, and told them it would be on a farm tractor. Well.... Dennis calls me... pump is way out of wack. High variance between all cylinders, set to around 155ccs and the torque capsule wasn't even doing anything. It was just there for the ride... injectors tested good. So he cleaned them and repoped them to a little higher pressure and reset the pump to the proper specifications. I get it back, put it on and let me tell you WOW! what a totally different tractor! Thus thing not only has the power it did before, but it has some BALLS! Before it would come under load and kinda just slowly die off. It finally has some torque rise now. Lots less smoke. And like I say, TOTALLY DIFFERENT TRACTOR! so in short, never doing business with k&s again.
