My 9 year old Grandson may become a great hunter,,,,,?????? My Son gave him a Red Ryder BB gun for his Birthday a couple of weeks ago,,,and I was in my shop when I hear him "practising" outside,,,,then I hear the distinct sound of glass breaking,,,I break and run as I am fairly certain what the little CHIT is doing,,,,!! Sure enough when I get around the corner,,,he has broken three of the 6 windows in the main back window across the back of the RV,,,,!!!! I took the BB gun away and march his little AZZ back into the house to present him to his Daddy to explain why he done what he did. I tell him and his Daddy one of them has to pay for the damages and Jamie agrees,,,! What makes this worst is my little ole Burg is not big enough to have a place that will repair the broken panes ,,so my only thig is to maybe use some 1/8" plexiglass or,,,,,??

No Safelite mobile glass repair franchise in the surrounding area? How about an RV service center?

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

I had a cracked windshield in the car 6 months ago.. Called Saftlite in the BIG CITY an hour away.. WAs going to take it to them, They said they would drive out and do it at my place.. Drive was free, but the window was $400. ... Worth a call. I would bet they CUT glass for some applications.... Plexiglass will work, but its soft, will scratch, and might yellow after 10 years... Depends on the quality you want..

Roswell, is about 38,000 innocent humans and 40 miles from me with only two places that will change out a car windshield. You have tp travel to Lubbock or Midland to get the service or products you mention. I have been to both local places and they will measure and "Order" an In Kind replacement glass based on the year model and Mfgr of the RV,,,and if your rv IS OLDER THAN 10 YEARS OLD,,,,YOU ARE SOL,,,!!! I see many different kinds on Amazon and Ebay just need to know which kind will work better I know the plexiglass is very limber and prolly not a good candidate,,,?,,,

Take your pucker preventive kit along when looking for plexiglass. Like buying gold since Covid. I'd look for some presneezed on stuff. Lexan is the premo grade but I don't even want to hear what it costs by now. Lexan is approved for aviation windshields so...... Did you stop to consider that Black Bart could have been looking out the back window at your gkid, might have been a life or death thing goin on when he had to blast him?

Here is what Mr GOOGLE said...
Acrylic and polycarbonate are two of the best plastics to use as replacement windows because they are durable and safer than glass:
Other benefits of using plastic for replacement windows include:

Polycarb is THE 'plastic' to use. Cop shields are made from it. It's easy to cut, drill and tap. I hope you're keeping the Red Ryder, in plain sight but NOT operational, ay least until 'they' restore your ride to it's former glory.

Hey TBone, it good to hear from you, my Friend,,,, Oh, I'm sure he has learned a valuable lesson that he won't soon want to do again. I expect there are many other youngsters that have done same thing and if I really wanted to,,I could prolly remember having done the same chit myself,,,, I used to be pretty dang good with my ni errrr home made slingshot,,!! Them elm tree limbs way up high on the tree had some almost perfect "Y" s for sling shots,,,!! We used to live up in the mountains and would go hunting after school and used to sell the bigger birds like robins, doves, blue birds to some kids that lived down the canyon for .10 and the smaller sparrows for .05,,,, I learned supply and demand at a young age,,,,

Nice. Been a while since I left my last job, used to work with a lot of different plastics. If memory serves, I’m pretty confident, Lexan is brand name name for polycarbonate, Plexiglass is brand name for acrylic. If someone already said that, sorry. Good luck my friend. Enjoy the grands, even though they need a lesson taught once in a while. |

Had my backhoe on jobsite and seems overnight kids decided to test rear window of cab on how rocks bounce off glass .
Replaced it with LEXAN sheet = been 15 years in service and still clear and no scratches , and no more tests with rocks . |

Used to vacuum form canopy and windscreens from "Lexan" sheet. It is the correct plastic sheet to use if impact resistance, and durability is required.

I never cared for the rear window on my 7045 tractor. Doesn’t open very far, piano hinge was coming apart, etc. I had the idea to make a window out of Lexan and I was thinking about making a little window in the corner for control cables and such. I floated that idea here on the forum, and was flatly told what a terrible mistake that would be and if I was ever going to sell the tractor everyone would wonder how many other terrible things were wrong with the tractor. Well my genius brother in law made up my mind this spring by shattering the window into a million pieces. Winter project will be to make one out of Lexan. |

Lexan is definitely good stuff I will attest to that. I noticed the Amazon add and my recollection of price in 1980 do not jive. It was knee deep bucks then.
