Hello, I am somewhat new to WD tractors and just purchased a WD45 wide front with a Kelly loader that was ran low on rear end fluid, upon pulling the rear end cover I discovered that the bearing on the pinion was completely failed. Does the WD share trans/rear end fluid and will I need to worry about the rest of the bearings in the trans? Shifts into all gears fine but doesn’t mean the bearings aren’t damaged. Thank you. Only payed 500 dollars for the tractor so I can buy a used rear end/trans if that’s the best option. I also am in need of service manuals and feel the IT Manual is not a good option being that is covers 36 different models not just specific.. open to suggestions for manuals or even online locations for download.

Bearing damage is evident. But the gears don't look terrible... I'd put a new bearing in and set up the rear real careful...

Better see if you can even purchase the bearing you know you need before going any further. Not the first time I've seen this. Leaking tractor on a dirt floor shed and no one EVER checks the chassis oil level because it takes a wrench to do so.

I can’t find anything through the AGCO website for 223308, is there another place I should be looking? I’m gonna pull the shifter tower off today and inspect the trans assembly today- thanks for the reply

That's the one needed. Next thing would be disassemble the transmission and see if that bearing bore has spread apart and cracked the case. If it has, plowing and discing days are over. Parades and light work will be fine. All other bearings at least should be removed and washed out with solvent and air dried to get all the schrapnel cleaned out of them or replace with new. Don't change ANY shims or you might have a howler in road gear.

On the AGCO website, add 70 to the beginning of the number sequence. In this case: 70223308.

UPDATE: pulled the shifter tower off today and every thing appears to be good in the transmission and bearings in the the hand clutch/ transmission housing wall appear to be in good shape, housing does not appear to be cracked, looking like I can split it and do a bearing replacement, possibly pinion shaft and carrier bearings, but looking better than expected. Next step is splitting the thing and getting deeper into my inspection - thanks for the helpful replies. Any tricks or things to keep in mind when splitting it?

Doug, does 200.00 for a complete trans and rear end including all the planetaries and what not seem too far out of line?

Never forget, you can buy a complete rear end for sure. BUT, it may be in worse shape than fixing this one. What I see of the shifting dogs, this looks like a pretty good tranny and may have a decent shifter on it too. I'm jus saying..........

Don't know if your still looking, but I have a complete pinion shaft with good bearing. Also the ring gear still attached to the diff . Would take 100.00 for that.

It is a big job to get into the transmission, currently rebuilding the transmission on my WD45.
