last year i collected 100 walnuts off the ground. i took a 1 inch pipe nipple and pounded each nut thru the pipe to shear off the black husk. Gets 90% off real easy. I was told to throw them in a bucket of water for a few days. The ones that sink are soaking up some water. THe ones that float did not soak up water. They were about 50-50. Mid november, i planted them in a small area about 6 inches between the nuts, about 3 inches deep. I planted the sinkers and floaters. THe water is suppose to freeze and break the nut open and start the growing next spring. I had about 25 of the sinkers sprout and about 10 of the floaters sprout. About may they were a foot tall and i transplanted them. Got the blight in july and i lost a good portion of them. Will try again this fall.
