could help me to know the differences between model B and model C and even CA
I thought all C model had the 2 twin wheels at the front and a bench seat like that And I thought all B model had the 2 wheels apart at the front and a metal seat like that But it seems that it is not so clear? And what about model CA

C has a wider rear end, wider drawbar and the steering arm from the steering box.
Both B and C have three speed transmissions. CA has four speed transmission, hand clutch and power adjust wheels. |

C could be bought with either narrow, wide or single front wheel.
All B's were wide front end. Some later models had adjustable front end verses the "wishbone" type in your picture. C was considered a two pow tractor, because of the added width. B was considered and one row tractor.

Most B's had a bench seat like the C in your picture. The seat on the B in the picture was an option.

The B and C use the same engine, transmission, differential, hydraulics, tires and rims, and most sheet metal and radiator. The C is "about" 6 ft wide and the B is "about " 5 ft wide. The rear axle is a foot wider ( 6 inches each side) than the B.. You could flip the rims and mount inside or outside the hub to get various width of "tire on the ground"... ALL B were wide front... The C could be narrow or wide front.
The CA was an Upgraded C . production of the C stopped and CA started. It had 4 speed transmission, and upgraded hydraulics. You picture of the C is VERY COMMON for a C.. Your picture for the B is VERY COMMON, except someone has changed the bench seat to suspension seat. Note the rear HUB on the C bolts on with a 5 bolt pattern... The HUB for the B normally slides over a 2 inch splined shaft with ONE big nut to retain it... There were a few variations to that rear hub, but not common.

Interesting breakdown of the B and C models. We had a B with the wide seat back in the 60s. It had the wide front axle as well but was a very narrow tractor overall. I do remember it having a smaller pto shaft than the standard 1 3/8" 540 shaft. Had to use a splined bushing to get it up to the std 540.
I really like your "Pragmatist" analogy of Trump! We are all missing him a lot right now! |

The B came out in 1937.. Full production in 1938. The original PTO was 6 spline 1-1/8 diameter ...... The C came out a couple years after that so it had all the UPDATES and it was a 2 row tractor instead of a 1 row... as WF said. .......... around 1950 the C was dropped and the CA was put in production with a few "updates" that would eventually make it to the D10-12 models... The B stayed in production with the CA at the same time.

The torque tubes on the B and C should all be the same length. Over the years they added a few cast BOSS threaded holes for mounting equip. The steering box for the B was under the gas tank and the LINK goes to the left front wheel.... The C has a steering box under the gas tank with a LINK that runs to a second gear box under the radiator and operates the vertical post attached to the front wheels.. That works better for a narrow front end. The gear boxes are not interchangable between the B and C.. they operate in opposite direction. Wheel clamps are available on e-bay... or if yours are worn they can be welded to additional thickness.

There are 4 clamps on the rear wheel. Two directly bolt on. The other two have egg shaped bolts so when you rotate them they have a cam action and push out on the rim to tighten them.. Make sure you have at least TWO cam clamps on each wheel.

I understood that the CA had 10 improvements over the C: (1) HP (2) Hydraulics (3) 4 speed trans (4) Heavier axle (5) Draft control (6) Seat shocks (7) Hitch (8) Hand clutch (9) Live PTO (10) Spin out rear wheels.

The CA has a higher road speed. B/C has top speed of ~7pmh. The CA does 11mph due to taller tires, higher rpm governor, and possibly lower numerical 4th gear ratio than B/C 3rd gear.
CA weights at least 500lbs more. Edited by KMAG - 01 Mar 2021 at 9:58am |

My understanding was that they were the same except that the B had a wide front for 1 row cultivating and the C narrow front for 2 row cultivating.

When a model "C" had a wide front, it was adjustable in width. Generally, model "B"'s were the non-adjustable arched axle. Models B's were narrow in the rear axle area for one-row wheel tread width. Model C's were much wider and capable of straddling two 40 inch rows. Same for the CA......two 40" row width.
