Uncle calls me, buddy of his has a D-17 he wants to sell. He's all jacked up, you need this, it's a bargain! Says it has a full set of pie-weights on it and tells me the price. Series three. I think, yeah, don't sound too bad. So, Sunday morning I hook onto the trailer and head South. When I get there, no beauty queen, big surprise. We hadn't discussed the front end, luckily, threw in the third ramp! Now I notice the tires are spun out pretty wide, that's not going to fit on the trailer, crap. It's about a 20 mile run, so headed back home and got the 'big' trailer. Loaded up fine, paid the man and back home. I should note that we attempted to spin in the rims and that just didn't happen! Fuel system leaks so now I need two carb kits for whatever model Zenith carb these things have on them! Needed to get the beans cut so she's livin' on the trailer for now. Only one picture, for now. This is my third D-17 and I have yet to get a grill screen with one! Have to admit I'm kind of intrigued with the Series 3 and NFE, it may stay around here awhile. I rather enjoy chasing parts and improving these things over time. Downside, I've now got so many to work on it's getting hard to remember everything I need to be finding! |

Nice old original tractor!
Sometimes (actually a lot more than sometimes) the "beauty queens" you speak of are kind of like putting lipstick on a pig. Give me an original tractor that I can see the leaks and worn stuff.

I also agree it can't hurt. The great thing about tractors is you don't have to feed them anything if you have to leave them alone for a while.

wjohn, that is a fact, they don't eat anything! Got D-17-1 running yesterday, still waiting on a sediment bowl for this one.
