any alternator with an INTERNAL VOLTAGE REGULATOR would be fine.. The "old reliable" was the DELCO 10SI ...... The last 10 years many people have started using the SMALLER DELCO CS130 , or the DENSO mini alternators. The wiring is similar for all. Tell us which one you get and we can post a wire diagram.. ... Coil is not a big deal.. Just get a 12 volt ( with internal resistor) at the local Auto store or Amazon, etc.

This is a common alternator to use... the "three wire" is a better choice than the "one wire"..
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

No alternator required. You can get the generator rebuilt and wired for 12 volt. Get a 12 volt voltage regulator, coil and points for 12 volt system. Done deal.

Did it to my 58 D14. Works perfectly.

I think it was around $150 a few years ago. But no mods required trying to make an alternator fit.
I have a bit of a pet peeve seeing modern alternators on classic tractors too. It's a cheap price to pay to maintain the tractor's originality.

Everybody has their own opinion about how they want to set their Tractor up. When it comes down to it, going with an Alternator is the cheaper way to convert. I've converted a lot of 6V Gennies to 12,  with mated VR's, as well as the Starter motors. Completely up to the individual. It is more expensive having the OEM components changed over, but again, like I said, it's up to the individual. We offer a 12V conversion for the "D" series Tractors in kit form with different options. If you visit our website, you can see what we offer. We specialize in electrical, but we touch a little on each category of the Tractor.  ie-engine, drivetrain, fuel system etc.
