So our 712h when mowing (PTO engaged) will only run when the choke is left wide open. Other than that it's fine. Any ideas?

Yeah, I'm wit' Hud on dat one. You have dirt or varnish pluggin' up the enrichment nozzle making the engine run real lean. Pullin' the choke closed most of the way fattens the mix, and cut off the air charge. Time to "rooto rooter" the Carbatrator....

still buy new ones from kohler we have ordered a few in for some of our customers  but i would put new throttle shafts in and bushings if needed and re biuld it all the parts are available

You might try running some Sea Foam through it. There are full load mixture adjustments on my gas garden tractors, also. Run it all the way in to get rid of anything that might be in the orifice and then back out to where it was. If still won't run well, back it out some more.
