My narrow front WD needs new 5.50-16 tri rib tires. Local tire shop can get:
ATF (Asian Tire Factory - Indian?) 6 ply Deestone 6 ply Samson (Chinese?) 4 ply Carlisle 6 ply
The Carlisles are the most expensive, but not by that much. The 4-ply Samsons are of course the cheapest. Deestones are $5 cheaper than the Carlisles and the ATFs are pretty much in the middle. I hadn't even heard of ATF or Samson. No loader work so not 100% sure I would need 6 ply, but I will probably pick a 6 ply tire anyways.
Are Carlisles still good enough quality to be worth $20 a pop over the cheaper tires, or are they all a crapshoot any more?

I bought Carlisle for the back of the Garden Tractor and also the front of the Allis B.... seem to be very good tires at a good price.

I put a set of Deestones on the back of my Cub Cadet. Made from the old Goodyearmolds in Thailand. Pretty pleased. No weird wear and no dryrot or checking.

Put the Carlisle on. I sold them for several years. They aren't nearly as good as Firestone's but their probably the best you can get now.

I like the Sampsons, beefy 7.50-16 that I have. But I would go with the Carlisle, made in the USA i think

Another vote for the Carlisle's! Put them on the narrow front '45. When I went to pick them up at the tire shop, they had a pair of the Sampson's laying there. 4-ply, looked 'small', had them order the Carlisle's. No regrets. Put a new set of 9.5Lx16's on Dad's 4230 too.

Put a pair of Carlisle 18.4 34 on my 4020 last summer, molded on tire made in Turkey. They seem to be a good tire so far but they weren't the cheapest. I would go with the Carlisle.

Thanks guys. I'll order the Carlisles. The guy seemed shocked that I'd mount them myself so hopefully I'm not missing anything. The old tires were a bit of a fight to get off but not too bad with decent spoons.

i have both sampson and carlisle the carlisle are about a year newer but they do heavey loader work sampsons have a lot more hours but light duty they both look about the same but i think the carlise will last the longest even on the loader
