I have a 1955 hd11. I changed out the fuel filters on the weekend and have had problems getting the fuel up to the injectors. Bled everything I can think of from the tank to the fuel filters. Still no go. How much pressure is supposed to register on the fuel pump pressure gauge...10-18lbs? Can a person hook up a 24 volt carter transfer pump and if so what kind of volume would I need and pressure?

If you just changed the filter, and it ran fine before, than you probably dont have a mechanical problem. If you didnt have all the air out of the system comletely and you started cranking the engine you probably have the air trapped in between the pump and the injectors, so now you will have to take a wrench and crack a couple of the injector lines by the injector, and crank it till you get fuel squirting, than tighten it back up and it will fire.

Bled all the air from the primary filter...then cracked line from primary to pump and bled air...then cracked bleeder on secondary bled all air. By the way is fuel suppose to expel from secondary filter as fast as it does when primary is cracked? This run out but not gushing. Then bled air from line union from secondary to fuel pressure guage. Cracked lines at injectors and still no fuel getting to injectors, Is there a bleeder valve on the main pump?

I agree with Kcgrain, if it ran befor it will run again bleeding air from the fuel system can be a real pain sometimes-- I think hes right when he said you got air in injector lines, repete all steps again also it may help to open throttle up

When you're bleeding the secondary, you have the engine cranking, right? You need to use the top bleeder screw, with the engine turning, to expel this air. If you open the lower drain cock, it can actually take in air. I had a problem once, and batteries were low and not providing enough rpm to really energize the boost pump on injector pump. Is your fuel guage showing pressure?

I bleed all my PSB injection pumps at the bleeder on top in the center of all the injector line ports. Its not easy to get at. I use a 3/8 driive with a flexy socket. I`m told you can also use the small hex stopper on the side just below the top. Have not tried that one yet.

Hi;
Thanks for all the help. Turned out it was a small piece of cork (from bottom of filter)caught in the elbow at the top of the pump that restricts the pressure on the system by means of a small hole in said elbow. Cleaned out small piece and diesel flowed when motor turned over. Running again. Thanks again for all the replies. |
