    Posted: 14 Jun 2016 at 6:53pm
Hello,

First of all let me apologize. This is my first post and first day on this forum, and I must admit its not the best laid out forum I've ever seen... I'm struggling to find any knowledge on my 2000 year 9785 Agco-Allis in this forum, but external searches in google seem to find many topics. Anyway, I'm open to constructive criticism if I'm not even posting the the appropriate place. Here is my problem:

This spring season the tractor began deciding it did not want to go into gear. The big Exclamation point would pop up in the digital display and sometimes codes E117-E119 would flash. The tractor was inoperable until I went out and disconnected the battery for about 15 min. I returned to the tractor after the brief break and it went right to work. This happened about 5 or 6 times this spring and currently is not doing it as we side dress corn. Anyone have a good idea to start with on this issue? I do not own an owners/service manual but if someone has an electronic copy that would be really cool if they could share it with me. I would very much like to fix this issue on my own, but do not know where to start besides the obvious troubleshooting inspecting wires/connectors around the transmission area. All seem to be good.

Thanks!

Had the same problem on a 9745 a couple years ago and had to have Agco serviceman come out and replace the sencors on the inching (clutch) pedal. If you call a dealer with those codes, they could tell you if that's the problem. sencors would not be hard to replace.

With all due respect Mr. Snake,  You come on this forum, and the first thing you do is criticize the forum, and then you ask for help, getting around not having a service manual, for a tractor, that isn't really part of the forum coverage to begin with????

Allis Chalmers ended in 1985, (focus of this forum) your tractor was made 15 years later, by a different company.

Please forgive me, but purchasing the factory service manual, or paying the dealer is probably your best bet.  Have a splendid day.

With all do respect Mr. Orange, you're obviously a dick. Thanks for taking the time to be absolutely unwelcoming and insulting when you obviously have no knowledge of the problem.

cwhit more than likely answered your problem being the switches on the clutch pedal being the problem.  They are known to cause a problem like you described.

Error codes 111,112,113,114,115,117,118,119. Duty cycle vs. Current test failed on clutch associated with error code.
Probably cause. Insufficient power to TC to complete the startup test for associated clutch coil circuit, due to low battery voltage, failed neutral switch, failed bottom of clutch switch or not seeing bottom of clutch switch long enough on startup. Faulty transmission harness or coil.

Checks: check fuses. Hold down clutch during startup until DCC completes startup test. Check that power supply to the TC is between 10.5 and 14 volts on both the switch and un-switched circuits. The switch power is routed through the neutral and bottom of clutch switches. Check for proper grounding of the TC. Check for shorts to ground, shorts to positive voltage and opens in the control circuits to the clutch coils.

This may not help at all. I just copied it right out of our agco service manuel.

Call your local dealer or the closest dealer to you.  Ohio has several wonderful dealers that have manuals and service personnel that can look at your tractor and diagnose and repair the problem.  That is what they are there for.

Your calling a well respected regular visitor on this forum names and not taking the time to see what section is what will not get you a warm welcome.

I work at a dealer and would have looked into it to help you out, but not now.

Wow folks... you would think I asked a bunch of whinny millenials for help by the way you all took offense to me commenting on the condition of the site. The site is confusing and hard to navigate to a novice. That fact aside, I meant no disrespect and I truly am sorry for ruffling feathers here. I was only frustrated by my personal attempts to navigate the site over the past few hours that I had been researching my problem, and was hoping to spur some conversation. Every google search about this tractor leads back to this message board, but yet the internal search cannot find the same articles.

Thanks very much for the lead on this from the adults that chose to help and see that nothing malicious was intended-however that cannot be said of some of you up on your high horses. I'll post the results of my work so others can learn and future operators with issues can hopefully solve their issue and laugh at this petty thread.

Well Mr. Snake I would like to welcome you to this forum and apologize for the RUDE posts regarding you problem. The first line of your first post started with an APOLOGY and the post ended with THANKS. As far as having trouble navigating the forum--that's understandable for a first time user. I can't believe you were given grief for asking for help on a AGCO ALLIS tractor. Heck there's been questions on this forum about every brand I can think of and that's fine to me. Hey guys just to look up parts for ALLIS CHALMERS on AGCO's parts look-up you have to go to AGCO ALLIS as far as brand goes. Anyway I can't help with your problem but I sure hope you get it figured out. I always thought those were sharp looking tractors.

Guys, I appreciate the backing, but let's not continue this.

Clearly I was misunderstood, in the world of the written word, without the advantage of body language, voice inflection, tone, etc. it is very easy to do.  Mr. Snake probably wasn't in the best frame of mind, given his very expensive tractor was acting up, and I am sure I could have stated my response better.

I will say this, Mr. Snake, some people do actually use the term, "With all due respect," as it is intended, not as an arrogant belittling statement, I am one of those people.

Let's all just chalk this up to misunderstanding, because if the worst I am called is a D@#k, than I consider my day to be a success.

I promised to update the forum once I solved this intermittent problem. I finally got fed up dealing with the problem and got a meter out and traced the faulty component down to a potentiometer located on the clutch pedal assembly. The component  didn't seem to change resistance very smoothly and had a dead spot in the travel that was an open circuit.  There are two simple NO/NC switches and the potentiometer in this pedal assembly. Here is where it gets fun:  They completely stopped making the potentiometer and redesigned it SLIGHTLY. I guess there was a reliability issue they were trying to solve according to the dealer, but this simple redesign caused me to have to replace the clutch pedal, spring, housing its all assembled in, harness, and all the small associated mounting hardware. a very probable 20 dollar part cost me 600 dollars to replace because everything was just ever so slightly different (this was doing all the troubleshooting and wrenching myself and then calling the dealer to come out with the computer to reprogram for the new component.)  I would have been willing to change the inexpensive part once every 10 years--thanks Agco.       A few weeks later a safety switch down below the "drivers side rear wheel" also malfunctioned, and I believe it was in the hand brake circuit.  I was able to take it out and clean the connections up on that one though. No more refusals to go into gear. The new tractors sure can be frustrating. I hope this helps someone in the future.

Thanks for the up-date, snake. I have a 9755. Maybe this info will help me out some day. That is, if I ever get the transmission issue resolved. Darrel
