Saw this on AuctionZip for 1/5/23:
One row, New Idea 323 corn picker, powered with an Allis Chalmers engine. Located in Strasburg, PA. https://www.auctionzip.com/Listings/3756563.html?kwd=allis%20chalmers |

AC720Man is correct. There is no picture of the picker, but it is in the verbiage. Based on the pictures that are posted with the ad and also some of the descriptions, I guess the auction is for an Amish farm.

I'm betting it was a power unit from a combine or forage harvester that was repurposed for a corn picker.
I couldn't find a picture of the picker, but I did see a good picture of a couple of my former bossed side by side.

During the 70’s AC did sell engines directly from the Harvey engine plant to New Idea.

Weren't those engines for Uni-Systems? I have never seen a pull-type NI picker with an engine.

I have! Around here(NI)the Amish use a "power wagon" which is a small 4 wheel cart on steel wheels (has a seat for driver) which has an engine with gearbox and PTO drive or pulley drive to pull a small 1row cornpicker, chopper, baler etc.
Most often with a Wisconsin V4 but sometimes Allis, etc. I will get a picture next year, cropping is done now! |

We never knew what the end item use was on these engines.
It was much like the engines that were shipped to other AC assembly plants. We knew who the customer was but, not what it was going into. For example there was many different series of engines (D2800, D2900, D3500, D3700 and the 12 liter) you could have several different variations of a particular series and the way we configure them was the catalog number.

I guess I should have been more specific. I have never seen a picker with a mounted engine. Everyone I have seen was either mounted on a tractor, self-propelled or PTO run.
Our area has lots of Amish and Mennonites. I have seen many forecarts (the "power wagon" you describe) with or without an engine. |

I have also seen a small red engine(from weedmower, generator or?) mounted ON the 1row New Idea picker.
