Wasn't it about series 3 that they started putting P.D. filters on?

Brian - yes Series III @ SN42001. They also combined the PD and hydraulics compartment at this time. Series III held 24 quarts, Series IV 26 quarts (since the internal Hydraulic pump was removed). Filter crosses to Fram PH11 or Baldwin B9. Mike

Actually now that I think of it there was a SN break where the early ones used the same hydraulic and oil filter...(now why they changed it I have no idea). I think a PH8A (Or Baldwin B2 or Motocraft FL1A) will work for SN42001-SN68627. SN68628 & up used the different filter. Mike

I own a 175, bought it new in DEc 1980. It was shipped from the factory with the same oil filter base for both the engine and hydraulic system. They boith take a PH 8A filter.

The serial number break was during Series III production where the hydraulic oil filter changed. DOn't remember exactly the number. However, the earlier ones took the same filter as the engine, a 70237000. These have I believe a 3/4 inch hole where the threads are. The newer ones I believe have a 13/16 hole and is the same hydraulic filter as used on, for example, a 185.
Here is picture of the location of the hydraulic/power director oil filter on a D17. Edited by DanD - 05 Feb 2012 at 11:15pm |

mine is one of the real early series 3's it has old style brakes and new style pump timing (i think) cant find the hole to put the pin in the flywheel and the pulley doesn't have the timing marks on it,.... so i guess ill take it off and see what size the threads are.

All Series III tractors have the new style band/disc brakes. Don't trust decals to tell you for sure if your tractor is a Series III or not. WHat is the serial number? |

When I got the tractor a year ago it came with a fram ph11 which is a inch longer it was bought by the previous owner but not installed. I went to use it and it wouldnt fit. I got online and the fram filter application guide showed it took a ph11. Local parts store sells baldwin and by application and cross reference from the agco # they showed it as a b2 or ph8a.
