I recently bought a 1960 HD11 that has been setting in the woods for about 20 years. Tractor number HD11E-6031 engine serial# 11-605. I tore the engine apart to free seized pistons. After freeing engine and prepping for reinstalling the top end. While cleaning cylinder head I found some large craters in between the valves. The do not look like a typical crack.I have never seen anything like them before (see attached. Was hoping someone could give me some advice on what the heck it is and where to go from here. Also does anyone know what material exactly the head is made out of. Trying to see if its possible to repair. Thank you for all the help

That almost to me looks like it was designed that way. If it has that on every cylinder it would be by the factory for some reason. I'm in the market and looking for a 74320689 Cylinder head for my 11000 series HD11EP Dozer. Tks Greg

Appears to me as previous repairs, Peened in spots, welded others. Check with Chapin Cyl Head, Chapin IL as they could lead you on the right path here.

Looks like old crack welds, the grooves are probably leak areas that eroded from 'blowtorch' effect. Curious, what did the valve faces look like?
