First part of August, I flew out of town for business. I'd been working down at the farm over that weekend and also doing some work at my daughter's place. Started feeling flu like (actually was thinking at the time Covid) and opted to turn back to home after 2 nights out. By Friday of that week I was admitted into the hospital for what turned out to be a 7 day stay. Wife said I was sleeping 22-23 hours a day and becoming incoherent.
White blood count plummeted to near zero trying to fight the infection and Docs put me into full quarantine while the antibiotics went to work. More blood work and test than I can count, though I'm sure I'll have a good tally when the bill comes! Weaker and sicker than I've ever been in my life but now home and finally back to somewhat normal. Infectious Disease Doc said my symptoms line up with all the other tick (likely Ehrlichiosis) that he's seeen and he's seeing alot. As many of you, I grew up pulling ticks and swatting mosquitoes but never thought a small bug would make me that sick. Thought I'd put this out there for all to increase awareness.....and #1, if you're feeling flu like and not getting better, get to a Doc asap. Not sure what would have happened if I would have tried to "wait it out".

Glad you’re home.
I’ve heard many stories of sickness due to tick bites. Neighbor had similar to your symptoms. Took him six months to regain his strength. Scary stuff. |

I’ve pulled 4 off/ out of me this year. The fourth one was right in the fold of my groin. Was there no more than a few hours and I had a nasty infection brewing already. Went to a clinic and got checked and antibiotics and seem to be fine (but I am dog tired lately). Dang things are sure thick this year.

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Wow, ticks have been really bad this year but I thought by now they were not as active. I volunteer out at the Arboretum, and we'd walk the long way around to avoid walking thru timber. The little ones were especially bad, and I've had to swat them off and had them crawling on me in the car, even after using repellant. Scary stuff-glad you're on the mend.
