Well last case I bought didn't work - 2 problems - later electrical hookup was wrong and no way to convert it to fit my truck - then getting it to lock in manually it would not engage .
So picked up another take out unit and will try that to see if I can get it working . Seems GM NP246 - Auto Track 4 button units have a clutch pack that senses off 2 speed sensors in tale shaft housing to control clutch pack pressure . If you use autotrack doing anything but driving on the highway it shortens the life and leads to failure . So this last snow dump I had to borrow sons 1 ton Dodge diesel to do plowing . Nice truck to plow with but a $60 T + cost just isn't in the budget for me to move snow . Next found out my 2000 GMC 3/4 ton is actually built on 1/2 ton frame and is just a beefed up under carriage and in 2000 the new body style was made up out of extra junk GM had i rush to get new body style in the market with the 6.0 engine . |

Bit the bullet and opened up my origional case , bad bearing as the retainerin the bearing melted and all the balls went to one side (plastic retainer between balls) then the clutch pack had excessive play. Bought a new bearing and set of clutches and installed them - said to heck with the shim stack height and just put full 10 friction discs and 10 metal plates in and the shim that was in present case . IT WORKS
So thanks to Dakota Dave for saying he did his own - so I did also and it wasn't that big of a job as it sounds - after watching several videos and saying the special tool ws needed I found out it could be done without . |
