 Topic: 80R3 Twin wheel sickle mower oil

I've been working on an 80 R3 (or an 82, 83 not real sure on which model) but it is the twin wheel drive. Does anyone know what oil is supposed to go into the gearbox and how much of it? I would any 80X90 or 75W140 would be fine, I also do not see a plug on the gearbox that oil will flow out once filled to the proper amount.

There is only the plug which is on top of the housing. This is taken directly from my manual for the 80T trail mower.....same gear box.

Not familiar with this model, is there a cover on the gearbox, or just a fill plug?
If a cover, I would remove the cover, and fill the gearbox until the gear oil is about 1/4 of the way up the side of whichever bearing is highest. But make sure the gears can draw oil when in motion. 80w-90, or 75w90, should be fine.

This one actually has a drain plug on the drive housing towards the front down low and it has the fill plug on top.

if it's leaking out the horizontal shaft you probably have to much oil in it. I never had one leak out the bottom shafts. Make sure you grease BOTH grease fittings on front and BOTH fittings on the back of the gear box output shafts. My old pappy use to say. "As long as it's leaking you know it's got oil in it."
